When your water heater starts making strange noises, it's time to get it replaced. Here are some signs your water heater needs to be replaced:

-The water in the shower is always hot, even when the water heater is turned off

-Water shoots out of the faucet when you turn on the cold water

-Water comes out of the drain spout in a hurry

-You can hear weird noises coming from inside the tank

Types of water heaters

Tank-style water heaters use a large tank of hot water that sits on the floor or in the basement. The water is heated by either a gas or oil burner and then passed through tubing to all the rooms in your house.

Tankless water heaters use a special kind of heating element called an infrared heater. These heat the water as you need it without having to rely on a tank of hot water.

Electric water heaters use electricity to warm up water instead of using fuel. They're more efficient than gas or oil burners, but they're also much cheaper to operate than traditional tank-style or tankless water heaters.
